Evidence based is the base for Nutraceutical
Let Science evident speak for itself, supplement knowledge before supplementation

International Nutraceutical Symposium hosted by Taiwanese Nutraceutical Promotion Association on December 14th, 2013, with medical and academic guests from Taiwan, United States, Hong Kong, Macao, Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia. Former Academia Sinica president, current International Council for Science (ICSU) president, Professor Yuan-Tseh Lee also indicate that nutraceutical is very important, however, there weren't a complete plan with current execution, the public is lacking the knowledge, and hoping the scientist in the field will continue the work and benefit the public in Taiwan.

Inflammation is the cause of all disease, UCLA medical department professor emphasized on intaking "anti-inflammatory nutrients" – w-3 fatty acid

Zhaoping Li, M.D., Ph.D. JAMA, Annals of International Medicine journal for over 60 articles, over intake of calories can increase fat cell production, and cause chronic inflammation, and this is the best environment for cancer cells growth. Inflammation not only is related to cancer, but also cardiovascular, autoimmune disease, type II diabetes, dementia and other diseases. Professor Zhaoping Li and her research team is eager to find the inflammation mechanism caused from fat cells, and future to balance the over inflammation symptoms by natural anti-inflammation nutrients.
The best anti-inflammatory is w-3 fatty acid, with fish oil, flex seed oil, and canola oil contain the most concentration. However, people now a day are lacking w-3 fatty acid in the diet, plus the increase intake of the sugary drink, they are also drinking in the inflammatory.

Scientific based "Selenium Yeast" can inhibit different types of cancer cell growth

Research found that "selenium yeast" has significant effect on inhibiting cancer cells. Professor Chen also reminded everyone that although amino acid selenium and sodium selenide can toxified cancer cells, but can kill the normal cell at the same time, he suggests using selenium yeast when supplementing.

Professor Kao from Hong Koung technology college nutraceutical department reviewed many science thesis and found that "selenium yeast" not only benefit the cells research but also proven in the animal study that it not only shrink the tumor size but also able to inhibit the spreading.
With the lack of the knowledge of the general public, there are chances of taking toxic selenium supplementation, thus it is suggest choosing "selenium yeast" that has enough scientific evidence.

Natural TG form fish oil can prevent breast cancer recurrent

Cancer stem cells is the main cause for cancer recurrent and spreading, his inicial research result showed, the key to inhibit breast cancer stem cell growth is not the drug, but the essential nutrient – fish oil, and specifically the natural TG form of fish oil from safe process. Nutritionist from Taiwan Nutraceutical Association also point out some negative cancer causing report from researches around the world. But the fish oil that these researches are using was all Ethyl Easter (EE) form of fish oil that was created from process involving the mixture of chemical solvents, and this definitely would cause an adverse effect.

Sole nutrient cannot fight the cancer, animal and human study showed: supplement "full spectrum" nutrient regimen has the best result

Professor Wang also notice that cancer cachexia was caused by lung cancer and many other cancer, in lung cancer mice for research, given complex nutrition regimen while taking chemo and radiation therapies, the result show great significant improvement for cancer cachexia symptoms, and greatly improve mice immunity and increase the ability to fight cancer and prolong survival time.

Professor Li from UCLA medical department also suggest that sole nutrients in tumor or other disease treatment intervention was not significant, balanced supplementation will have the synergistic effect with other complete nutrients, as a result, nutraceutical is growing in many clinical settings.

Co Enzyme Q10 intervention is beneficial for coronary artery heart disease patients

Professor Lin has been partner with veteran hospital to work on supplementing coronary artery heart disease patients with coenzyme Q10. After daily supplementation of coenzyme Q10, patients' oxidation level has decreased, at the same time the antioxidant activity has increased, and the higher the dosage the more effect the result showed, and can even raise the co enzyme Q10 level in these patients back to normal range of concentration.

Antioxidants, Co Enzyme Q10, and Natural TG form of fish oil can help stabilize blood sugar and improve kidney function

Associate professor Dr Chang from Chin Yi University Food and Nutritionist Department has extent the research on diabetes project and further found that the kidney disease caused by diabetes can be improved by using nutraceutical supplementation (Antioxidants, Co Enzyme Q10, and Natural TG form of fish oil), it not only stabilized blood sugar but also effectively improve kidney functions. So far this nutraceutical concept has been established in the research template, and will be apply in clinical trial to benefit more patients.

Taiwanese Nutraceutical Association Funder, Simon Hsia, PhD, and Chao Ping Li from UCLA Medical Center suggest that increase intake of colorful fruits and vegetables to increase antioxidantion ability, supplement probiotic and prebiotic is also important; fish oil, canola oil, flaxseed oil can also balance daily intake ratio of w-3 and w-6 fatty acid, regular exercise is also one of the essentials.

Nutritional Medicine in Cancer Management

Nutraceutical is a fairly new knowledge, since 1989 when Dr. Stephen L. DeFelice proposed the idea, recently Nutraceutical research has accumulate increasingly in United State, it shows that this in important in maintaining health in medical treatment, and nutrition intervention is becoming one of the medical revolution plan.
However, nutraceutical is still behind in Taiwan medical field. How to catch up? Mother of the tumor treatment, professor Pong Wang Chia Kan, chair from National Research Center, invited medical, pharmaceutical, nutrition, and academic scientists to participate in the meeting on December 14th, 2013, discussed the medical revolution in Taiwan.
The participants of the meeting included doctors, professors, tumor and other specialty scientists, medical doctors from Hong Kong and Australia. Founder of Taiwanese Nutraceutical Promotion Association, Simon Hsia also invited Dr. Zhaoping Li from UCLA School of Medicine and Department of Clinical Nutrition to participate and bring contribution to the meeting.

Scientist Lu Hai Wang used the research of "selected Vegetables" (SV) in united state as example to promote nutraceutical in Taiwan.

Professor Show In Shu also suggested the difference between combination and single regimen in medicine regimen.

Nutraceutical Intervention in Cancer, Diabetes, Depression, and Asthma

On Oct 14 2012, Taiwanese Nutraceutical Association (TNA) hosted the Nutraceutical for Complementary and Integrated Medicine Forum to invite several prestigious scientists and clinical doctors involved in nutraceutical research, to present their recent findings. The forum included 20 research findings, including animal study, in vivo study, and human clinical study, and among those, the inhibition of tumor growth is one of the outstanding founding. This forum reached about 500 attendees, TNA hoped to use this opportunity to spread the importance of nutraceutical in disease prevention and aiding treatments.

Choosing the wrong therapy can take your life, using the right nutrients such as TG form fish oil and selenium yeast can increase anti-cancer ability

A 52 year old lady was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer, and was told to follow "starve diet" to starve the cancer cell, but died from liver failure. Dr Yeh Coung Yong from Keelong Chang Gung Memorial Hospital stated that cancer patients will experience weight loss or even death due to cancer cell over growth and taking up most of the nutrients, plus the body cannot absorb nutrients well during treatment, patients need more complete nutrients. Dr Yeh let 68 head neck cancer patients took complete nutrients during treatment and found that patients' BMI, prealbumin, and albumin were all improved.

Besides, Professor Wu Chang Cher and Wang Hang from National Ocean University Food Science Department also found that mice with tumor when supplementing complete nutrients that contain natural TG form fish oil and yeast form selenium can increase mice's immune system and survival rate. TNA chairman Chen Bo Chong state that, selenium promotes cell apoptosis and prevent cancer, but different selenium has different outcome, yeast form selenium is nontoxic, thus it can also protect normal healthy cells.

Antioxidants can lower the risk of diabetes thrombosis complication

Professor Chang Chong Chu from Providence University published 2 research articles on controlling and preventing diabetes and slowing the complication, result showed that bitter melon extract and antioxidants can reduce inflammation in blood vessels and slow the thrombosis complication. Dr. Chen Shi Jua from Chen Chin Hospital gave this regimen to type 2 diabetes patients for research, and found that when given proper dosage, it can help controlling blood sugar, and reduce lipid oxidation, reduce endothelial damage.

Nutrients can help depression

Professor Kao Chi Hong from Hong Koung Technology University found that complete nutrients combination can increase dopamine and serotonin concentration in depression patients, and liver kidney functions were not affected. Dr Kao think state that nutrients supplementation is very important to add in the treatment.

Supplementing nutrients for asthma patients can decrease inflammation

Chen Chin Hospital E.N.T Department Chair Dr Liu Bo Zen's research "Asthma patients with nutrition supplementation intervention" result showed that it can increase antioxidation ability, decrease inflammatory allergy reaction, improve cell balance and lung function, and control asthma efficiency. This is the first nutraceutical research published in Taiwan.

Medical doctors, pharmacist, dietitian, nurse, and product scientist work together to promote public health

Nutraceutical has been as one of the main stream in medical care, many countries also cover insurance for nutrition consultation and supplementation. TNA founder Simon Hsia, PhD, suggested that promoting nutraceutical need the team work between medical doctors, pharmacist, dietitian, nurse, and product scientist to create the best benefit for public health.
